With the Wind

With the Wind is a cover design for Ka Hung Wong’s selected poems, translating an invisible subject — wind — into a visible trace. The design uses drifting sand as a metaphor for movement, allowing soft dispersion and directional flow to shape the composition. Rather than illustrating wind directly, the cover records its imagined effect on material.
The restrained typography, muted surface and subtle movement of the sand create a quiet, tactile atmosphere that echoes the poems’ sense of transience and lingering emotion. The result treats the book as a physical object in which material, image and absence work together to suggest something that can be felt but not seen.
The cover as a surface
Drifting sand provides a visible trace for the poems’ invisible subject: wind. Restrained typography leaves the cover’s texture in view, while the spine gives the book a quiet, clear edge.

Eight variations
Across eight covers, the sand shifts in density and direction while the book’s format remains constant. Together they show the range of movement possible within the same restrained composition.
