A Crack in Everything is a book cover design inspired by the paradox of the black hole: a boundary into which matter can fall but from which nothing can escape. Swirling linework visualises gravitational pull and the bending of space–time, while the composition appears to draw both image and typography towards a central void. The visual system turns an invisible astronomical force into a graphic experience of movement, distortion and depth.

The cover reflects the book’s theme, How Black Holes Came in from the Cold and Took Cosmic Centre Stage, by presenting the black hole not simply as an illustrated object but as a force that actively structures the page itself.

Type under gravity

Fine lines curve towards a central void while the title stretches across the cover. The black hole becomes a force shaping the composition, drawing typography and image into the same movement.
